Levelland Middle School

Recently, I had the distinct pleasure of serving as a judge for the culinary competition that was held at the middle school.  Sodexho sponsored an event where students could submit recipes for healthy snacks and 6 were chosen to compete in a throw down of epic proportions.  The six finalists were paired up with some professional help, and they were challenged to create 75 portions of their tasty treat in 2 hours.  The girls worked very hard, but had a ton of fun while chopping, mincing, mixing, cooking, and putting it all together at the end.  The staff of the Middle School Cafeteria was amazing, and gracious to let the competition take over their kitchen for a few hours.

I took pictures, and some videos of the event and wanted to share them with everyone so you can see how great the event really was.  I look forward to more delicious treats in the future, and wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two of these girls on Food Network one day.

Rachel's_Challenge

Rachel’s Challenge” exists to inspire, equip and empower every person to create a permanent positive culture change in their school, business and community by starting a chain reaction of kindness and compassion.

This year, Rachel’s challenge has transitioned all middle schools from the Friends of Rachel (FOR) to the Chain Links club. It is a unique club that focuses on what students of their age are dealing with. Levelland MS students have formed a Chain Links Club.

They meet on Tuesday mornings from 8:00-8:30. Their “coach” is Sara Tucker, representative from FOR. Staff sponsors include Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Diaz, Mrs. Spears and Mrs. Payne.

They initiated a collection of donations to the Breedlove Foods, Inc., a non-profit humanitarian aid organization, in response to the Haiti earthquake crisis. Each $100 provides 2,167 servings of soup. The LMS Chain Links club gathered $156.00

Pictured are those in attendance at the January 26th meeting. They average 47 weekly.
