U.I. L tryouts were held at Levelland Academic Beginning Center on October 13th. These students will compete against other local schools on November 17th, at Levelland ABC.

The students chosen for Storytelling are Kendall M, Blake H, Laynee N, and Chloe C. The Storytelling team is coached by Kindergarten teacher, Kim Smith.

The Kindergarten students chosen for Oral Reading are Laci W, Samantha Y, Brittan D, and Jeremy G. The Oral Reading team is coached by Kindergarten teacher, Amee Dobson.
Each day Mrs. Dobson’s Kindergarten class goes to Learning Centers. Learning Centers are the skills they have learned that week but made into a fun activity. Here are our camping Learning Centers.

Fishing for beginning sounds and sightwords. Who ever catches the most letters and sightwords wins the game.

The smore game is yummy. Roll the die and add that many marshmallows to your roasting stick. Try not to burn your marshmallow by rolling the black square on the die.

Listening to Curious George Goes Camping and drawing the characters.

Computers are always fun!

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record©, presented in partnership with Pearson, is a world record breaking campaign that brings children and adults together to read the same book, on the same day, in homes and communities all over the world.
Each year, staff and students at Levelland Academic Beginnings Center get “counted” toward a new world record! Today, Assistant Superintendent, Kelly Baggett, was on hand to start the reading of The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Teachers then continued reading the book to the students. There were 481 participants at LABC.
With funds from previous book fairs, Cindy Pope, the librarian, was able to purchase all kindergarten students
a copy of the book to take home and enjoy. SPCAA Head Start—as a part of their Reading Connection project—purchased the books for the prekindergarten students to take home as well.
