Dr. Seuss
During the first week of March, Mrs. Coats class celebrated the author, Dr. Seuss. All week long we read books by this author, and on his actual birthday we made “at” hats. The students learned the sound of “at” and that by changing the beginning letter we were able to form new words.

Texas Tech Football Player, Taylor Potts
At Levelland ABC!!!
On Friday, February 26, 2010 Taylor Potts stopped by Levelland ABC’s Green team classes to finish off the study of “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!” He read the story to the students in Mrs. Coats, Ms. Graves, Mrs. Roberson, and Ms. Tucker’s class. The students were encouraged to “help” him read the story by calling out the letters in the alphabet. After the story was read, Taylor took pictures with the students of each classroom.
V for Volcano!!!
In learning the letter V, Ms. Tucker’s class constructed their very own volcano. At the beginning of the week we mixed together flour, salt, oil and water to make a clay like form for the structure of the volcano. We waited two days before we painted it brown. The class decided to wait until our Valentines party to watch it erupt. As you can see in these pictures the students were so excited to watch a volcano erupt.
The Purple Team at Levelland ABC (Dobson, Gore, McFerrin, Smith) is participating in many learning activities that go along with the Dr. Seuss thematic unit. One of the learning activities that the children loved was cooking green eggs and ham. The children had the opportunity to read a recipe, participate in cooking, and enjoy what they made. After they tasted it, they each decided if they liked eating green eggs and ham, or if they didn’t. When they decided, each class made a graph to post the results. After reading all the graph results, we decided the Purple Team LOVES green eggs and ham!

Mrs. Gore’s Kindergarten came to read to Miss Avitia’s Pre-K class. That was so AWESOME! They first read to the class as small groups, and then read to the kids individually.
These Kindergarten students had to make their own addition problem using objects in the classroom. Then they had to find the answer and read the number sentence.

This week the Blue Team learned about safety from the experts. We had the Paramedics and Police visit us at our school. Mrs. Pugh came and talked to us about being safe at school and we took a field trip to the Fire Station. The kids had a great time!
Mrs. Dobson’s Kindergarten class has fun learning!

During literacy centers students did write around the room which consisted of finding “Ff” words and writing them down. The cool glasses helped!

Also, during literacy centers students put on headphones and went to the word wall that had sight words on it. Students listened for each sight word and pointed as they found them.

The students on the Purple Team at Levelland ABC experienced apple activities as they rotated to each class.
In Mrs. Dobson’s room the students began with a taste test. The students graphed what they liked to eat with apples. Do you think they liked fruit dip, caramel, or peanut butter with their apples?

After reading and discussing the book “Johnny Appleseed” in Mrs. Smith’s class, the students did an art activity to represent Johnny. They made headbands that looked like they had a sauce pan on their heads. Don’t they look a lot like him???

Mrs. Gore reviewed patterns using apples cut in half. The children used the apples as stamps to make AB patterns. They also discussed the three parts of an apple.

In Mrs. McFerrin’s class the children heard the story “The Little Red House.” With help from Mrs. McFerrin, the students cut an apple in half and discovered the star inside just as the story had told. They completed the lesson with an art project showing the star inside of the apple.
