The Levelland High School Theater Department will perform Electra Tuesday May 11 at 7 p.m. Electra is a one-act Greek drama that was the winner of the Division I, 3A U.I.L. One-Act Play Competition. This is the only opportunity for the community to see this winning production.

Electra is a tragedy in the grandest style of Greek drama,” Tim Trujillo, director, said. “What a talented group of actors, actresses and dancers we have involved in this year’s One-Act play. Electra is one of the more difficult plays we’ve attempted, and it is a real testament to the depth of talent in our theater program that we emerged as District Champions.”

The public is invited to attend the public performance on May 11 at L.H.S.’s theater. Tickets are $3 each and are available at the door.

Electra is a tale of a woman obsessed with defending her father’s honor. Electra, played by junior Brooke Etheridge, has been kept hostage by her mother, Queen Clytemnestra and King Aegisthus.

Clytemnestra, junior Makenzee Spruiell, and Aegisthus, senior Kyle Hysmith, murdered Electra’s father. Chrysothemis, junior Kristen Williamson, is torn between helping her sister or supporting her step mom, the queen.

The cast also includes: Tanner Saunders, Jacob Faulks, Coby Crisp and the Greek chorus made up of Sarah Adams, Caitlyn Bush, Susan Duff, and Mackinze Spears. Ty Hewitt, Zach Myatt, Sam Moody, Levi Norman, and Leah Stuart make up the crew.

At district, Etheridge won Best Actress, Faulks made the all-star cast, and the Greek chorus made honorable mention all-star cast. Hewitt, won a technical award for best stage manager. At regionals, Etheridge made all-star cast, and Williamson and Saunders made honorable mention all-star cast.
